What's the twist rate on the barrel of your .223??? 29.3 gr and a 32 vmax has been outstanding for me, fellas i am new here and this may even be my first or second post but i thought i would toss this out for the fellas that are playing with the 204 loads- i have 3 different 204's and the reason for that is i could not get anything factory to shoot in 1- factory 700 adl 204 and 2-23" encore barrel and 3- a ruger 77 vt stainless - i tried all powders and primers and bullets with one load that worked in all 3 - the remington i almost sent back to them for checking out only after doing a lot of work to it to see if it would shoot - now to this day i cant get a 55 gr of any kind to shoot and the best so far and pretty darn good is the 40 bergers even though they are almost 20 a box - now for the fellas that are still looking for a load to try - like i said no factory stuff would shoot worth a crap even the 32gr stuff but this load shot great and i mean groups i am proud to match with my pride and joy 22-250 40X -yea it hurts a little to admit it but i knew this 204 urge would pan out sooner or later in a plain jane remington with enough tries-- the load that works in all 3 guns is : and please check this info before you load it because its coming from memory -- varget 28.5 gr and 205M primers and the 40gr bergers - now my col was just a tad longer than factory but still not long enough to touch the lands in any of the guns so there was a little jump (even with the 55gr i still couldnt get enough length) i know now that the twist in 204 just will not shoot that long of a bullet) but didnt at the time and i was using the brass from the factory hornady stuff that was all over the place - now i dont own a chrony so thats all the info i can offer but i will tell ya this - this load groups like nothing i have ever seen in my very few years of loading my own stuff and this load showed no bad signs in all 3 guns - i sure hope this helps someone and saves them a little powder and time-i hope it shoots in their gun as well as it does mine and if ya play a little more with this load and figure something else out post it, The Official Predator Masters Search Engine, http://www.rugerhunting.com/forum/index.php.
