The City of Port Townsend's Compost is a combination of bio-solids from the City's Wastewater Treatment Plant, Bio-solids from septic systems from Jefferson County, and ground yard waste that is mixed together and aerobically composted. Please see the attached brochure for dates and times. The waste soaks up moisture to get to an ideal carbon-nitrogen ratio that, combined with the right temperature, drainage, aeration, and ventilation, reduces the volume of waste so it can be used in outdoor compost.
